The gas protection relay is the most important safety devices for oil-insulated transformers.
Of overheating, corona discharge or arcing
In the event of overheating, corona discharge or arcing, gas is formed through decomposition of the insulation oil or the solid insulation materials. The gas is then captured in the gas protection relay and initially produces a warning signal. In the event of serious faults or major oil flow, the gas protection relay trips and the transformer is removed from service.
Our gas protection relays have aluminium alloy casings, surface-treated with epoxy lacquer RAL7030. They are equipped with glass inspection windows on both sides. Protection class IP55 with 2 magnetic N/O (normally open) contacts designated -MA. Can be ordered in other configurations (N/C, changeover, etc.) and a test certificate accompanies each gas protection relay.
We have mercury-free replacements for most older gas protection relays; see the table.
